Wholeness Is Possible

wholeness is possibleLately, I have been contemplating on wholeness. It seems to be the goal for every person on earth. According to Victor Frankl meaninglessness in our lives is a hole, an emptiness, in our lives. Whenever there is a vacuum we rush to fill it with things. We keep on trying one thing after another – shopping, money, work, sex, drugs, entertainment, relationships, hobbies – but nothing fills the hole. But God.

Look at that man, bloated by self-importance—
   full of himself but soul-empty.
But the person in right standing before God
   through loyal and steady believing
   is fully alive, really alive.
(Habakuk 2:4, MSG,*)

There’s no way you can put yourself together, make yourself whole. But God is ready to do it if you ask. Making you holy and whole gives him joy.

You are not complete or whole without God. If you don’t want to be soul-empty, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with God’s grace. Then you can learn to know what it means to be really alive.

God’s presence gives us meaning.
God’s power gives us energy.
God’s calling gives us purpose.

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it! (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, MSG, emphasis added,*)

R.J. Stewart has said “Holy has the same root as wholly, it means complete. A man is not complete in spiritual stature if all his mind, heart, soul, and strength are not given to God.”

That’s the key to holiness and wholeness: surrendering our everything – spirit, soul, and body – to God day by day. We are never short-changed. Life with God is always better than what we could make of it on our own. Without God we could never experience wholeness. But with God it is possible. Do you want it?

Dear God,
Forgive us for seeking for wholeness
outside of you.
Grant us grace to cover our sins.
Heal us, Lord.
Make us whole and holy.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How do you try to fill your emptiness? What is your recipe for wholeness?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace Christ for your wholeness!
